Tehri Garhwal, nestled in the heart of Uttarakhand, is a magical blend of serene lakes, mighty mountains, spiritual heritage, and adventure-filled roads. My recent trip to this stunning destination was nothing short of breathtaking — a journey that refreshed the soul and filled the eyes with unforgettable views.
The drive to Tehri Garhwal is an experience in itself. Twisting roads, pine-covered hills, and the cool mountain breeze welcome you as you ascend from Rishikesh or Narendra Nagar towards New Tehri. Every turn reveals another postcard-perfect scene — valleys wrapped in mist, sparkling rivers, and peaceful Himalayan villages.
The first major stop was New Tehri, a picturesque town overlooking the massive Tehri Lake, Asia’s largest man-made lake. The turquoise water spreading between tall mountain ranges felt surreal — calm yet powerful.
Jet Ski & Speed Boating – pure adrenaline rush on the still waters
Banana Ride, Water Skiing & Kayaking
Sunset Viewpoint – golden reflections over the lake are unforgettable
Photography Spots – breathtaking angles from every viewpoint
One of the highlights was visiting the Dobra-Chanti Suspension Bridge, India’s longest motorable suspension bridge. At night, the colorful lights reflecting on the water create a dreamlike scene. Standing there, I felt the gentle winds and silence of nature — a moment to simply breathe and admire.
If you are an adventure lover, Tehri is heaven:
Paragliding over the Tehri lake
Trekking & Camping at Kanatal and Surkanda Devi
Cycling trails through pine forests
Nearby heritage & temples add peace to the journey:
Surkanda Devi Temple – a 2km trek with panoramic Himalayan views
Chamba town – perfect for tranquility and local culture
Devprayag – divine confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda forming the holy Gang
Aloo ke Gutke
Mandua Roti
Chainsoo & Jhangore ki Kheer
Buransh Juice
Simple flavors with mountain warmth — absolutely delightful.
Choose a lakeside resort or campsite — waking up to sunrise views over Tehri lake is pure magic.
Tehri Garhwal is not just a travel destination — it’s an experience of nature, thrill, silence, and beauty all at once. If you’re tired of the chaos of city life, take a road trip here and let the mountains heal you.
